Do you deliver engine oil to customers in Winnipeg?
Residents of Winnipeg can rest assured: our dedicated fleet of delivery vehicles is committed to ensuring the motor oil you require is available to you when and where you need it.
What is the difference between synthetic engine oil and conventional engine oil?
Synthetic motor oil tends to be more durable and withstand increased heat better than their conventional engine oil counterparts. In order to accomplish this, synthetic motor oil is further processed and refined to eliminate contaminants that may exist in conventional motor oil.
Contact 49 North Lubricants or refer to your machinery’s owner’s manual for more information about which type of motor oil is right for your needs.
What is the difference between heavy-duty engine oil and passenger car engine oil?
Heavy-duty motor oil contains an increased amount of detergent and dispersant additives to combat soot and increase the oil drain intervals required. Furthermore, heavy-duty engines will usually require a higher viscosity grade motor oil than passenger car engines.
What grade of engine oil should I purchase?
In order to determine the correct motor oil for your machinery or vehicle, it is best to consult your owner’s manual. The grade of motor oil available from 49 North Lubricants varies in relation to the viscosity of the engine oil product. The numbers in the viscosity designation (ex. 10W-40) refer to the resistance to thinning and thickening in the particular grade of motor oil.
If you seek more information regarding motor oil viscosity, feel free to contact 49 North through telephone or our website.
How often should I change my motor oil?
There is no definitive answer to how often your vehicle should have its engine oil changed. The answer largely depends on a number of factors, such as if you have a heavy-duty or passenger car engine, the amount you use the machinery, and the climate in which it is used.
Generally, for personal automobiles, motor oil should be changed twice a year or every 5,000 to 7,500 km. But once again, that will depend on the vehicle you are operating, how often you drive it, and the type of engine oil you use.
Does your motor oil meet API specifications?
49 North Lubricants motor oil meets all current ILSAC and diesel standards as defined by the American Petroleum Institute (API). Vehicle owners should refer to their owner’s manuals for the specific grade of motor oil required. Engine oil may have more than one performance level.
For automotive gasoline engines, the latest ILSAC standard (GF-6A and GF-6B) includes the performance properties of each earlier category (GF-5, GF-4, GF-3, GF-2, GF-1) and can be used to service older engines where earlier category engine oil was recommended. For automotive gasoline engines, the latest API Service Category (SP) includes the performance properties of each earlier category (SN, SM, SL, SJ) and can be used to service older engines where earlier category engine oil was recommended.
For high-speed four-stroke cycle diesel engines, the latest API Service Category (CK-4) includes the performance properties of each earlier category (CJ-4, CI-4, CH-4) and can be used to service older engines where earlier category engine oil was recommended.
